In this article we'll walk you through the process of integrating your SmarterSends instance with your Iterable project. We support both Email and Hybrid (Email and UserId) project types within Iterable.
1) SmarterSends uses the UTC timezone for all interactions with Iterable. So it's best to use an Iterable project that is set to the Etc/Utc timezone. Don't worry your users will be able to schedule campaigns using their own timezone but we use UTC for our interactions with Iterable.
2) While logged into Iterable and the project you will integrate with SmarterSends, Hover over the Integrations menu item and select API Keys.
3) Click the New API Key button
4) Provide a name for the API Key, we suggest SmarterSends API Integration.
5) Select Server-side for the Type.
6) Click the Create API key button.
7) You'll be presented with the API Key. Note once you close this window you won't be able to see the key again. So be sure to copy and store the key in a secure location.
8) Log into your SmarterSends instance and click the Email Service Provider menu item.
9) Select Iterable from the dropdown.
10) Select the API Endpoint associated with your project, e.g US or EU.
11) Paste your API Key into the API Key input box.
11) Click the Test API Access button. If your settings are correct, you'll see a green check mark and now see additional settings.
12) Select the Email Subscription Channel to be used with your SmarterSends integration. You can configure additional Email Subscription Channels in Iterable under the Settings -> Message Channels and Types.
13) Once you select the Channel, select the Message Type to be used by default for all subscription statuses when sending from SmarterSends. Iterable tracks subscription status at the Channel level then the Message Type level and then ultimately at the List level. If you want all of your SmarterSends groups subscriptions to be considered at the top level, use a singe Message Type for all groups by setting the value here. If you want each or some of your Groups within SmarterSends to be treated as separate subscriptions, you can create and define separate Message Types for each group. More information can be found in the Iterabale support center at https://support.iterable.com/hc/en-us/articles/204780529-Message-Channels-and-Message-Types-Overview
14) If you want to restrict which data fields your users can interact with for importing data and/or personalization, check the Restrict Import Fields checkbox. You can select which attributes your users will be able to use as personalization tags or to import data into.
15) Click Save and you are Integrated!
Note: The from address you use in your SmarterSends templates must match one of the Email Senders you configure within Iterable. It is suggested to always lock the From Address when creating templates to avoid sending errors.
