Enable SMS/MMS for Cordial

Overview

This guide explains how Cordial customers can enable SMS in SmarterSends, configure Cordial-specific options, and build SMS templates that allow user-editable content areas.

Prerequisites

• SmarterSends tenant with admin access
• Cordial account with SMS enabled (sender numbers provisioned)
• Your Cordial Sender Number/ID
• Optional: link shortening/track domain
   

Enable Cordial SMS in SmarterSends

1. In SmarterSends, go to Settings > Integrations > SMS.
2. Set Provider to Cordial.
3. Fill in provider-specific settings:
   1. Enable MMS (optional): Enable to allow attaching images to outgoing SMS (MMS), if your Braze setup supports it.
   2. Stop Language: Compliance footer text, e.g., Reply STOP to optout.
   3. Include From Name (optional): When enabled, the sender’s From Name (configured in your templates) can be included within your message content (useful for brand identification at the start of the SMS).
   4. Maximum Message Length (optional): Between 160 and 800. SmarterSends uses this to warn and help you stay within intended lengths.
   5. Sender ID (required): Your SMS sending number or Short Code configured in Cordial.
   6. Link Tracking/Shortening (optional): Turns on Cordial's link shortening for SMS.
4. Save.

Create a SmarterSends SMS Template (Cordial)

Go to Templates > Create Template and choose type SMS.

Provide a template name.

Configure From Name (optional) and lock behavior.

Write your SMS content using plain text and merge tags (e.g., %%campaign_name%%).

Insert Content Areas where editors should add campaign-specific content.

Save the template.

Using Content Areas in SMS Templates

• Placeholders: %%contentarea{ID}%%
• Conditional blocks: {%conditional-{ID}-begin%} ... {%conditional-{ID}-end%}

Test Sends

• Use the SMS composer’s “Send Test” to send to test contacts. Enter your test accounts SMS Phone Number.
