Viewing Audience Import Logs
Import Logs provide a history of completed audience imports and show how many records were processed successfully, identified as duplicates, or rejected with errors.
Accessing Import Logs
- Open Audiences.
- Locate the audience you want to review.
- Open its Actions menu.
- Select View Import Logs.
The View Import Logs option appears only when at least one import log is available for the audience.
You must have access to the audience to view its import logs.
Understanding the Import Log
Each recorded import includes:
- Import Date: When the import was recorded.
- Duration: How long the import took to process.
- Successful: Records successfully inserted or updated.
- Duplicates: Records identified as duplicates by the connected messaging platform.
- Errors: Records that could not be imported or were excluded.
Import dates are displayed using your configured timezone. Logs are listed with the most recent import first.
Successful Records
The Successful count represents records accepted by the connected messaging platform.
Depending on the platform, this total may include:
- Newly inserted contacts.
- Existing contacts that were updated.
- Records successfully added to the selected audience or list.
A successful count does not necessarily mean every row in the uploaded file was added as a new contact.
Duplicate Records
The Duplicates count represents rows the connected messaging platform identified as duplicates.
How duplicates are handled depends on the platform and its import configuration. A duplicate may be ignored, merged, or used to update an existing contact.
Error Records
The Errors count represents records that were not imported successfully.
Common causes include:
- Missing required values.
- Invalid email addresses or other incorrectly formatted values.
- Values that do not match the expected data type.
- Unrecognized or incorrectly mapped columns.
- Records rejected by the connected messaging platform.
- Contacts excluded by configured suppression or access rules.
Downloading Import Errors
When detailed error information is available, a download icon appears beside the Errors count.
To download the details:
- Open the audience’s Import Logs.
- Locate the import you want to investigate.
- Select the download icon beside the Errors count.
The CSV file includes:
- Row Number
- Error Details
- Row Data
The Row Data column contains the original values associated with the failed or excluded row. Use the row number to locate the corresponding record in your source file.
Error-detail downloads depend on the capabilities of your connected messaging platform. Some platforms provide only summary counts and do not return row-level error details.
Correcting Import Errors
- Download the error report when available.
- Review the Error Details for each row.
- Locate the affected rows in the original source file.
- Correct the invalid or missing values.
- Confirm that the CSV columns match the required audience fields.
- Import the corrected data again.
A new log is created for the subsequent import after processing completes.
Import Totals
The Successful, Duplicates, and Errors counts may not always add up exactly to the current audience size.
This can happen because:
- Existing contacts were updated instead of added.
- Duplicate records were merged or ignored.
- The audience already contained contacts.
- Suppression or group restrictions excluded records.
- The connected platform calculates audience membership after the import.
Import Logs Are Missing
If View Import Logs is not available:
- The audience may not have any completed imports.
- The import may still be processing.
- The audience may have been created as a query or connected audience instead of through a file import.
- The connected messaging platform may not have returned an import summary yet.
